"But I like calling you Captain." So, Shaun would continue to do so whether they were on land or sea. If it seemed to make Fjord uncomfortable he would stop though.
The ocean is not where Shaun would consider himself comfortable. He can handle it. He's not terrified of the water or anything but he simply respected the sea and its power. Power he was not equipped to counter at the moment.
"A dragon-turtle? Those are rare, aren't they? I've only ever heard stories about them attacking ships and none in recent years." He looks over the ship a second time as if he could spot the damage.
Pffft, he looks inordinately pleased to be called captain so determinedly and doesn't dissuade Shaun again.
"It was all alone and angry because it hadn't had sex in a while, so it smashed ships to shit out of frustration. That was the conclusion we came to, anyway."
No one is ever that angry if they're getting some, Fjord has had that reinforced several times over these past few months.
Shaun chuckles at that conclusion. It seems as real as any other though he wonders what Keyleth would make of that situation.
"I used to travel on ships like this in my youth. I would pay my passage by enchanting the sails to always catch even the slightest breeze." He trails his fingers along the railing of the ship, smiling fondly at the memories.
"Those sort of enchantment took weeks and luckily, the sailing took weeks."
"That's a fine trick to know, I wish I'd had it back in my youth."
It would have made things much more efficient while he worked under Vandren, that's for sure. Could have hit a lot more ports and maybe made a bit more money.
"It's very expensive. Requires a single strand of sylph hair or a pegasus feather." Shaun leans back against the railing. "I had exactly five sylph hairs so I traveled for free for awhile. A good thing too. I was very broke after purchasing sylph hair."
"I went to Issylra first. Wandered there for awhile. Then finally made my way to Tal'Dorei. I went up and down the coast of that, then back to Marquet, and eventually back to Tal'Dorei and Emon." It was a long few years of wandering and adventure before he settled down but necessary to gather the knowledge and wealth to start a store.
He smiles fondly as he thinks back to those years.
"I hope they asked but I admit as a young man I wasn't that concerned where my spell components came from." He shrugs but does look a little regretful. It was a long time ago but he could've been better.
His business, now, was much more careful and aware of where things came from.
"These days I could summon one and ask for it's help but I don't do too many enchanted sails. Mostly just adventuring gear and potions. Special requests." He looks up at the sails and then down at Fjord with a warm smile. "But for the right friend I could do all sorts of work."
"If most of your friends are at their full power and not limited by the island I don't see why not. You seem a capable group," Shaun says after a moment of consideration. "I wouldn't be much help."
Still no spells besides his cantrips which were not always the most helpful fighting monsters. Shaun would've liked Disintegrate back before he dared to do something like fight monsters of the deep.
"But perhaps start with a little expedition to the edge of the deep water and see what happens." He did like a little caution when it came to his friends. He knew Vax would come along and he'd like to have his lover come back uninjured.

Now he's way too invested in the mechanics of all of this.
"I guess that's why it was so expensive, if they did."

Fjord wouldn't be surprised in the slightest. He turns around on the railing, arms hooked back as he looks at the beach.
"Do you think it's a good idea to take the ship into the depths? I think ... we could take on the monsters, and I want to sail around the island."
