[It's not the first time she's caused a man to wander up to her, as if entranced, and it surely won't be the last. She's on her best behavior at the party (she's quite fond of the hosts, you see), but she can't help the wry grin that pulls her smile long across her features.]

That one is all yours, darling. [She nudges it closer to him with her hand, rose-colored eyes appraising him quietly. Probably not Veth.]

You should enjoy it, I worked very hard to get the Augur to give me a supply of them.

["Worked".]

[ Matt's smile broadens and brightens as he meets her gaze. He's never seen eyes that shade--something that's starting to become the new normal here. He has the strangest feeling they have tints and glimmers in them he can't quite catch. ]

Very very nice of you to share then. [ He plucks up the little bottle. Uncorking it, he raises it to her in a toast before taking a sip. ] I'm Matt. Hi.

[The island is full of interesting, beautiful creatures - with skin in every hue and horns and tails and tusks - but Aphrodite strives to stand out even among them. It's just what she does.

Matt. What an interesting name. [Said in earnest. You don't meet many Matts in ancient Greece. She has her own bottle of nectar that she's nursing slowly - there's only so much to go around, and she gives him a nod in return. Matt will find the drink incredibly good - divine even. It's a drink typically reserved for the gods, but Aphrodite has been breaking a few rules since she arrived.]

The goddess Aphrodite. Are you friends with the Mighty Nein?

[ The drink is delectable, but it's not why Matt's eyes shoot so wide. ]

You are? Really?

[ Sorry, he doesn't mean to not answer the question. His brain is just a swirl of with doves that drew thee fair and fleet around the dark earth right now.

Logic dictates that people claiming to be gods are not, in fact, gods. But logic also dictates that you can't wash up on an alien beach from your bathtub, and that happened, so why would Matt doubt it? It definitely explains the numinous beauty. ]

Oh my God, this is amazing. I'm a--big fan of your work.

[His surprise isn't at all surprising. It's not every day that one meets a goddess in the flesh, and Aphrodite has heard responses in all kinds. Most often disbelief, but sometimes there was awe or fear mixed in with it too.

But his response is new enough to make her laugh, and it bubbles out, her hand lifting to cover her mouth.]

It's always good to meet a fan. Now before you ask: it's true that I am captured here just the same as everyone else. Haven't a clue how it happened, but I'm not complaining, with such colorful company.

[Said with a flourished gesture to the crowd around them.]

[ Her laugh is infectious--like really good champagne, Bollinger or something. It makes him laugh too, even though he can't stay too amused with the information she's just shared. ]

Well, that's--good you can stay so composed about it.

Whatever's drawing people here must be really powerful, though, if it drew somebody like you.

They must be.

[She doesn't sound particularly bothered by it, herself. Partially because she's had plenty of time to ruminate over it already, and partially because it would not be the first time an entity has exercised some amount of control over her. Gods are not so all-powerful as mortals like to assume. (Although, mostly all-powerful.)]

But I think the Augur may have sensed a kinship with me from afar. [Said while one slender leg crosses over the other. Totally just relaxing but also bringing attention just how great her legs look.] I don't feel so much like a prisoner as a guest, although I know that is an unpopular perspective. There are worse places to be trapped.

[ Matt considers, thoughtful, as he takes another sip from the bottle. (He does, of course, notice how great her legs look. He just can't figure out if the marble columns they remind him of are Doric or Ionic.) ]

Oh. That's really nice.

[ In a way, it's exactly what he needs to hear right now. Assurance that this place is okay, and by extension he might be okay too. ]

And ... good to know. I've heard some conflicting things about this island so far. Hard to get the big picture.

[With the piece of art at the top of her legs how can they be anything other than Corinthian?]

It's a little bit of a conflicting place. [She'll admit that much. While the island doesn't bother her she can understand why others are a little offput. It helps, of course, that it doesn't seem like the Augur do too much to mess with her head. Maybe because she's all-too-willing to give them what they want.]

For those that are put off by the concept of casual sex, it can be a bit much. The augur have ways of... enticing people to play along with their little games, and that rubs people the wrong way.

[ Matt pulls a face. ]

You mean like the randomly occurring aphrodisiacs-- [ Which, whoa, is a very strange word to say in front of her. ] --or the, uh, aggressive plant life? I can see that.

[ A small frown. ]

Fundamentally, when you weren't asked in advance to be part of something like this, I guess it's hard to get on board. I mean, I think if they'd asked me I would've said yes, but in general.

[It's always so interesting to see what causes the most protest among mortals. From her perspective it seems like there's an awful lot that happens without their prior approval - wars, droughts, a long string of bad lovers - so being trapped on an island with nothing but the pleasures of each other (and endless new things to experience) seems quite preferable to all of that. Then again, she can relate to not wanting to be told what to do.

But she's not going to get into all of that, instead she grins, leaning in by a degree.] It's not so bad is it? Anything you could want at your fingertips - provided that you're willing to succumb to a few moments of pleasure for it, and the company is exquisite.

[Said as her gaze travels over the guests at the party. Specifically wherever Fjord has gone off to - even if he's busy smooching Molly she doesn't seem at all bothered by it. It's not as if she hasn't had her fun with a portion of the guest list here.]

[ Matt would definitely relate to that. There is so much in the universe that's beyond his comprehension, much less his control. In his magical practice, he's found it most illuminating to say yes to as much as possible--a sort of spiritual osmosis. He's gotten accustomed to welcoming the unbidden.

But while he doesn't talk about that kind of stuff with other people much, he can understand why they wouldn't feel the same way. He smiles at Aphrodite, expression lilting a little bit crooked as he ponders succumbing. ]

I rarely mind that.

In fact, I actually--

[ So when he said he was a fan of your work. ]

You might be the only person here who would really understand. But ...

[ He's gonna get there, he just needs a second. ]

[Being immortal, experiencing something new was a gift worth more than the finest gold, and the island was rife with it. Interesting people aside, she's never experienced anything like "motorcycles" or "bagels" before. She is certainly not in any hurry to return to her world where she's largely waiting for Demeter's mood to improve and life can flourish on the Earth again.

Matt stops, and Aphrodite leans in, interest obviously piqued.]

What is it. Tell me, darling.

[ When she leans in, it feels a little like the world is tilting on its axis, defining a new center of gravity. For a heartbeat or three, all Matt can think of is kisses. ]

I think I might be here because of how I practice magic, [ he says after a moment. ] Or, well--how I learned.

There's all these traditions back home, some of them from a hundred years ago or so, and others that are ancient, that talk about how sex is just another kind of life energy?

[ A small smile. ]

Which, as a teenage boy, I was very ready to get behind.

[It would be a lie to say her gaze didn't slip to his mouth at one point while he talks - kisses are quite regularly on her mind, even if she's set out not to start making out with anyone at the party. But what he has to say has her attention more than that, and her brows arch upwards.]

Sexual magic? [Definitely has her interest, and she taps a finger on her chin.]

There were humans that believed in such a thing on the Earth I came from, although the results weren't quite so literal as what I assume you are alluding to.

They aren't always literal where I come from. [ Matt shakes his head, thinking of how to explain. ] Magic is something not everyone can do, so most people would try sex magic and have nothing happen, apart from the sex--which don't get me wrong, is a win. But when I do it ...

Ah, I've done lots of stuff. Found lost objects, created good luck, saw occasional very confusing glimpses of the future. [ A crooked smile. ] Set the occasional bedroom fire.

[She chuckles. There's probably some cheesy line about how sex is already quite magical on its own, but she's pretty interested in the concept. Already familiar with worlds more magical than her own, it's not too hard to imagine one where her domain carries power for those that use it.]

Then you are in the perfect place to practice. [The lilt in her voice is suggestive, and her gaze flicks down for a second, but she's not about to fool around at a party while her flame, Fjord is right over there. It's the best for everyone really.

Hand curled in front of her mouth, she presses a finger against her lip, curiously,] How does it work?
