Let The Rain Fall
● WHO: Summer Rose (
waswrongtoo) and OPEN
● WHAT: Rain and Plant-Related nonsense.
● WHEN: June Event
● WHERE: The Ruined City
● WARNINGS: Probably smut, maybe some violence.
Washed Away
Summer's actually rather relieved when the rain starts to fall. If anything's going to encourage some sort of growth in this desolate place, this is it.
Of course, then the rain keeps falling. And falling. The day seems to be washed away along with the dust, and it keeps pounding into the night.
Hood up, settled in at the empty window of the building she's taken to hunker down in, Summer watches people travel past. Anyone who looks like they're lost or struggling in the rain will hear a woman's strong voice call out.
"Here! You, over here!" Summer waves them over quickly. "It's safe here! Come inside, quickly!"
Whether they trust her or not, especially if they look up to see a woman dressed in a long white cloak covering her head to toe, well that's up to them.

Well, that's over with. Summer's out among the growing vegetation, curious and also a little hopeful, wondering if she can find anything useful.
She doesn't recognize any of the plants exactly, but she's curiously searching her way through them regardless, figuring she might be able to get some ideas by appearance at least. As she searches, she notices something moving in the branches above her.
And at the same time, she hears footsteps nearby.
So when the first observation reveals itself to be a series of tendrils suddenly very eager to make her acquaintance, she curses and leaps back, an explosion of petals rushing out from underneath her cloak as she calls to whoever's nearby. "Above!"
Taste-Testing
Despite the... difficulties of gathering things right now, Summer's managed to snag herself several different fruits and bring them back with her in a small bucket she found. There's fruit of every color she can imagine in there, in shapes she would never have expected.
But as she sits on the door to her current residence, looking through her prizes, she frowns. She has food now, yes... but who knows if this stuff is actually safe to eat?
"I somehow don't think my survival classes are going to be very helpful here." She grumbles. It's to herself, but easily overheard by a curious passerby.
Wildcard
Make something else up! I'm open to most things, check Permissions just to be safe.

That didn't make it less weird.
It's not surprising when she hears a voice calling out, and that it's Summer's is even less of a shock. Adora's blade flashes into being, and she's already moving towards the sound.
"I'm coming!"
no subject
They dart into the mass with surgical precision, slicing through tendrils swiftly and cleanly. But they're dependent on Summer's attention to find their targets, and she can't see everything at once...
A particularly large vine charges at her from the left, while her mass of petal-knife protectors are busy holding off its friends, and Summer yelps as it grabs her leg. She turns towards it with a glare, ready to turn her focus to cutting it away, when she sees Adora closing the gap. Her plan immediately changes.
"Adora, over here! I'm holding off the bulk of them up in the branches!" Hopefully Adora can handle this bigger one while she keeps doing that. A sword ought to do a good job of that.
no subject
"Don't worry. I got this one."
A leap, and she comes crashing down behind the aggressive foliage, her sword transforming into a golden sickle. Striking over and over, she rips into the plant from behind, hacking away.
"Stupid. Thing. Why. Are. You. Moving?"
no subject
"I don't know how many plants there are or how many tentacles they each have, but I think I can handle the ones up in the trees if you can take the ones on the ground!"
Her faster, more maneuverable but comparatively weaker knives to take on the thinner vines coming from above, Adora's stronger but more limited strikes to handle the ones in melee ranger. Honestly, it's almost too easy to figure out how to handle this one... assuming they don't just get horribly outnumbered.

So asked as she ambles into view, the capelet normally draped across her shoulders now repurposed into a makeshift sack to better carry her own pile of colorful, if oddly-shaped fruit. As for whether any of it is actually safe to eat......maybe they'll both find out in the next ten minutes or so, given how she's already munching her way through one of said fruits.
no subject
She sighs, holding up her own bucket. "The problem is, none of these are fruits I recognize. So my training isn't going to be of much use. I've been trying to think of a way of testing them, but so far I've only come up with one... and that's to take a small bite and wait to see if there are any side effects."
Needless to say, that's not exactly ideal.
no subject
Unless you were a noble, of course, someone who never had to get mud on their boots or calluses on their hands—but the less said about those guys, the better. Lys ambles a little closer, eyebrows raised just so.
"Wait and see, eh....well, since I've already started eating one, maybe you could just watch me instead? That way you can stay, uh, objective and stuff."
There was probably a smarter, more elegant way to phrase that, but oh well.
no subject
Damn Grimm.
Regardless, Lys has a point. Summer sets her bucket aside and gives a nod. "That sounds like a good plan. If you have some sort of reaction I can probably help, too. I'm trained in basic first aid, at least."
As long as the fruit she was eating (it looked like some sort of dark blue melon) wasn't unbelievably poisonous, she should probably be able to deal with whatever happened.

"Unless you're from a place with these kinds of plants, anyway. I've never seen anything like them, and I've been to thousands of other planets." Not that that means she's an expert or anything, but...
no subject
"Of course, that means that now we have things that might be food... and no idea which are safe to eat. Or if any of them are." That comment about thousands of planets surprises her, though, enough to distract her from her thoughts for a moment. "That many different worlds? You're from another world with that sort of technology?"
no subject
"But, uh, yeah. Space travel has been a thing for my species for like. Billions of years."
no subject
"I see... Do you think your people will notice you're gone and be able to find you?" A rescue attempt would be nice, though given how they all just seem to have been warped here without a trace, Summer's not going to count on it overmuch.

It isn't difficult for Aqua to recognize Summer when she wanders into the area she had settled into. She stops walking, approaching her with every intention of warning her.
"Are you sure those are safe to eat?"
After the plants had attacked them, she wouldn't be surprised if there were poisonous plants around.
no subject
She chuckles at the question. "That's what I'm trying to figure out, actually. I think some of them must be, perhaps even most, but it only takes one dangerous fruit, after all. Unfortunately, none of my survival skills from home are any use here, because none of these fruits really resemble any I'm familiar with."
Holding up a bright yellow one shaped vaguely like a mango, she frowns at it. "The problem is, these are basically what we have to eat at the moment. Sooner or later we're going to have to take a risk."
no subject
But, if the situation doesn't start to change - then they may indeed need to make their home in the forest.
"It may be better to just try a little of each plant beforehand. That way, we can see how it may affect us before relying on them for food."
no subject
Which is why she's currently waiting for Qrow. But he might be a while, and it would be nice to get this started...

And knowing Melfina, she was foraging for food or just trying to get a better grasp on the situation without getting into too much trouble.
Summer's invitation is an easy one for her to take. A beat or two passes and she moves to join her. "Oh, what are you doing here? Just waiting for the rains to pass?"
no subject
She could survive it, sure. That's part of why she's got the cloak. But if she doesn't have to, why should she?
"How long have you been stuck out there? You're soaking!"
no subject
She removes her shawl-like garb and uses it after a moment to ruffle her hair, perhaps to draw some of the wet out of it. Once she's satisfied, she moves to sit with her newfound companion.
"I am, aren't I," she replies with an air of sheepishness. "I was looking to get something for dinner for Aisha and me. Seems about all I can do, really. At least so far. I thought I might find our ship in the hangar, but it wasn't there." A fool's dream. "It's nice to see you again. Are you doing okay, Summer?"

Qrow sighed, dusting his hands off on dark pants. There's a bucket of strange, alien fruit between them and only one thing left to do: brave the unknown. Sure, there are signs that a plant might be poisonous. A bitter taste, a strange sap. Did any of that even apply here?
But, more importantly... Qrow frowned slightly, visibly uncertain. "You sure I'm the person you wanna do this with, Sum?"
no subject
That's looking on the bright side for you. But then, Summer had long ago learned to try to factor Qrow's semblance into her plans.
"But hey, it doesn't always kick in, so maybe we'll be perfectly fine. It's really no more of a gamble than we were taking already." She's trying to be reassuring, really she is, it's just kind of a risky situation no matter what they do.
"And if something does go wrong, of course I want you there. I trust you with my life, Qrow."
no subject
A small frown pulled at the corner of his lips at those particular words, however. I trust you with my life. Gods. Now wasn't the time to revisit that particular memory, nor would Summer stand to here how big of a mistake it was to say something like that to Qrow Branwen of all people.
"Yeah, all right. I get you. What have we got?"

A very real concern given the intensity of the storm. The girl looks pretty tough, but that doesn't necessarily matter when it comes to diseases...
