((Hit up my event planning thread and we can figure out a starter! For reference sake, Eskel's "house" is the remnants of a wee corner cafe with a covered patio. The latter has become a makeshift stable for Lil Bleater and Scorpion. Most of the patio fence is degraded; he's shored up its holes and weak points with large pieces of debris.))

Yes, that's a refrigerator. As you've probably realized by now, it's used to keep food cold. Once machines that let people do that easily became common, they started keeping things cold even when that wasn't necessary to keep them from spoiling.

[She brightened a little as a thought occurred to her.]

I doubt you've ever had ice cream before. I'll have to get you to try some if I can find or make some here.

[Eskel nods along, listening intently. And also catching the word that Zoe used - re-frig-er-a-tor. She gets an acknowledging "huh" before he moves all the other beer bottles into the fridge. There's some other bits of food in there, and that's it.] Next round'll be cold. Been using this thing for storing excess milk from Lil Bleater, too. It keeps longer. Thanks for opening my eyes to other uses.

"Ice cream"? No, can't say I've even heard of it. Betting it's cold. [Duh]

[He motions for them to move to the seats by the unlit fireplace. As they go, he pops the cap off of his bottle with his bare hands. nbd nbd.]

[Zoe followed him, using a tiny bit of her magic to take the cap off of hers - doing it barehanded looked like it would hurt a bit.]

I'm glad to help. And yeah, ice cream's cold and creamy and sweet. Usually things like fruit or nuts are added to it to give it more flavor. It's really popular in the summer when it's hot.

[Eskel's mention of storing Lil Bleater's milk had gotten her thinking.]

It's usually made with cow's milk, I think, but I wonder if goat's milk would work.

[Eskel thinks as he takes his first sip of beer.] Milk is milk. Don't see why it wouldn't work. I'll keep it in mind. Hopefully it doesn't need too much milk though. Bleater's just one goat.

[He takes a seat on the right side of the couch - that way, Zoe sits to his left, away from his scars. One arm slings casually across the back.] I'm a little surprised folk in the, you know - [He gestures with his free hand vaguely towards the sky.] - far future, in the cosmos, are still relying on good ol' cows. There farmers trading milk for meteorites?

((Fun fact: seems one can, in fact, make goat milk ice cream lol. now I'm curious.))

Well, it shouldn't be that hard to adjust a recipe to the amount of milk available - you just might end up with only a couple of servings.

[Zoe sat down next to him and took a sip of her own beer. It wasn't exactly her preferred alcoholic beverage, but it was nice to sit with a friend and share something.]

Well, we do have some more artificial ways of making food, but farming plants and animals is still a fairly efficient use of resources, particularly since we have much better tools for farming than your world probably has. And farmers sell their products for money and use that to buy whatever they need. I guess barter would be more common than using money where you're from?

[OOC: Heh, fun. Maybe they can make some sometime. :^)]

[Eskel begins in regard to the bartering comment.] Mm, sometimes. Mostly in villages out in the bush, now. Us witchers ask for coin first for our work.

[He seems pleasantly surprised that what sounds like old, traditional farming practices are still happening in the future. Can't replace everything with a machine, right? But the conversation soon carries on. They talk of their worlds; Eskel tells her about a particularly difficult month-long hunt of a monstrous vampire called a katakan. (Zoe may get a bit of info dumping about katakan physiology, such as how their claws keep growing their whole life which reveals their approximate age.) After the story, he's struck by a particular thought about Erku.]

Strange as Erku is, it's fascinating to hear about all sorts of other worlds. Even other monster hunters have it different. Playing this...weird sex game ain't so much of a trade-off for that. Hell, at least I'm getting laid at all.

[He remembers Zoe's situation after making the comment and shifts in his seat, failing to come up with an appropriate addendum.]
